Fine Art
Fine art is the foundation of visual communication. Composition, contrast, form, and shape come together to create meaning. Fine art is set apart from communication arts in one way: The artist finds meaning as they work, rather than knowing it beforehand.
My treasures are clippings from National Geographic magazines, 90s rock band tour books, and a flaking pile of newspapers declaring the end of WWI. And my rubber cement. Chopping letters and photos to pieces then rearranging them into a work of art is my favorite form of expression. It can mean everything or nothing, and allows a galaxy of room for interpretation. Replace his head with a lemon. That car needs hooves. I need the letters to spell “epilogue” and more purple. Nothing is beyond my X-Acto! And, now that I think about it, collages are untamed publications.
Abstract painting is a freeing exercise. You'll notice I paint like I collage, with layers and layers of shapes and color. This particular collection also incorporates glaze, sand, and glass.
